Going Pecans Blog Hop

As part of the blog hop for the lovely Gina Henning’s new book, Going Pecans, I was asked to write about a time I or a character of mine was actually going pecans. With The Tenant freshly out, and Derek doing his best to drive Amanda nuts, I came up with this bit of flash fiction (NOT in the book). Enjoy!

“You’re going pecans, aren’t you?” Alice handed Amanda her plate, not bothering to get off her ass and help pick up after lunch.

Amanda all but smashed the stack of dishes she held on the table. As it was, they just jangled precariously. “What? What is that? What even is that?” She threw her arms in the air. “Going pecans? You think you’re so smart, coming up with phrases just to spite me?” Her eyes threw daggers.

Alice rolled her eyes. “It’s a saying. People say that.” She mouthed, ‘Weirdo!’

Amanda saw, but decided to be the bigger woman and ignore her little sister. What did she know about trying to build a life? She always had it easy, with her artistic nature, and big doe eyes that always got someone to help her out. “Honestly, it feels like that’s everyone’s goal these days. Get Amanda to lose it. But I won’t let you win. I won’t let any of you win.” She waggled a finger in front of Alice’s face. Maybe she should have Alice use the eyes on Naked Asshole. Maybe then he’d move out and she could house her near-certain marital bliss there.

Or whatever.

“You realize this”—Alice twirled both hands in the air—”is you, losing it, right? So you’ll need to move in with an incredibly hot guy for a couple weeks. It’s not a big deal.”

“Not a big deal?” First her parents suggesting moving the wedding was not a bid deal, and now this. Amanda was surrounded by pod-people! “He’s a stranger. Squatting in my apartment. The apartment I’m supposed to share with the man of my life. I mean, he walks around naked, brandishing a baseball bat.”

Alice snorted. “Is that a euphemism?”

Amanda wanted to throttle her. “He has an actual baseball bat!” She supposed, if there was such a thing as going pecans, she was at least halfway there.

Front Cover Going Pecans

A warm pie. A tasty guy. Happy Thanksgiving indeed.

Homecomings for Lauren Hauser are always filled with delicious food and hopes for a distraction from her quirky family. The only exception with this visit: she’s been given the challenge of preparing her grandmother’s pie.

Set out on a journey for pecans, Lauren stumbles into Jack a guy who despite his charm (and kissable lips) appears to be in a committed relationship…with his career. His main concern is taking care of a last minute errand for a client, not Lauren or her quest for the key ingredient.

Frazzled in more ways than one, Lauren’s journey improves when Jack rescues her from an icy walk. Attraction and tension rise and soon pecans aren’t the only things getting toasty in the kitchen.
